 Volunteer Roles

We need Holiday Camp Volunteers, and we're ready to accept applications if you are keen!

Volunteering at Tōtara Springs

We love growing young people at Tōtara Springs. As part of being a volunteer at Tōtara Springs we invest in you too.

As a volunteer, you will be a big part of kids' lives while they are at camp by helping kids become more confident in themselves, relating to others and their knowledge and relationship with God. We have a number of different volunteer roles each camp to help you pick the role you would like to apply for here is a handy description of what we expect for each of them.

Leader in Training (LiT)

New to leading at Tōtara? Want to give it a go with support? The LiT program is the place for you. Each LiT will be encouraged to grow in their leadership abilities by being part of a cabin, walking alongside more experienced leaders, as well as being mentored by a designated Leader in Training Coordinator. As an LiT, you will get to help behind the scenes and become an integral part of making camp run smoothly, while they have time to build their relationship with God through the fun of Christian Camping. Applicants for LiT must be aged 14 and older.

Pastoral Care

Our Pastoral Care Team are there to provide support, mentoring and encouragement to leaders throughout the week. Their role involves supporting the leaders in any issues they may face with their campers. A key component of this role is having a passion for youth, being able to support and mentor leaders in areas such as behavioral care and being available to come alongside cabins in any way that is needed throughout the week.

Requirements

Tōtara Springs Staff will need to see a display of top leadership skills, initiative and a passion for camping while volunteering as a leader. We encourage couples who have been involved in youth ministry or other forms of leadership to apply. These people are expected to be excellent role models and support to leaders both in and out of camp. This role is by invitation only but we do welcome expressions of interest as we are always seeking to grow our team!

Camp Parent

Each camp we need adults who can help us care for our campers medical and emotional needs. For more information get in touch with the camp coordinator.

Leader

As a leader you will arrive at camp the afternoon before campers get here and stay through until the end of camp.

The first day consists of getting to know the other leaders and staff, some useful training to help manage your kids whilst at camp and dinner together.

During camp, you and another leader will be given a cabin of 6-10 amazing kids to look after. Your job is to get to know them, hang out with them, be their friend, ensure they have a great time, share God with them and know where they are at all times! We’ll take care of the programme, the food and everything else, all you need to do is focus on the kids in your cabin and help give them the best week of their lives!

Leaders are required to be Christians who are regular church/youth group attendees. They must show the ability to lead and complete all paperwork.
The minimum age is 16 years old.
